MAWHINNEY, John D. – 81, of Butler passed away on March 3, 2017 after a long illness. John was predeceased by his parents John and Esther Mawhinney. Born in Paterson he lived in Haledon before moving to Butler in 2008. John graduated from Passaic County Tech and worked for Kearfot as an electrical engineer and then went on to head various other enterprises. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. John loved country music, played the guitar and participated in many country dance contests.
Beloved husband of Mary (nee Boydell) Mawhinney. Devoted father of Barbara Vaitovas and her husband George, Kathy Gunter, John Mawhinney and his wife Ann and Sharon Wallerius and her husband Jerry. Loving grandfather of Tara, Willow, Maya and Daniel and great-grandfather of Kyle, Nathan and Ryan Witten. Dear brother of Joan Susen and Ruth Burns and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all at the Lakeland Care facility for the great care given to John.
The family will receive family and friends on Monday from 4-8 at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Private Cremation.
