PORTELLA, Anna “Ann” (nee Panizzone) – 91, of Haledon passed away peacefully on May 17, 2017. She was a life-long resident of Haledon and a Parishioner of St. Paul’s R.C. Church in Prospect Park for more than sixty five years.

To know Ann was to love her and to be loved by her. Her spirit and energy were contagious. She was always happy at the job she held into her nineties and in her community of friends. She never tired of taking road trips (especially to various casinos), and traveling with her family. Her family is extensive and always remained at the center of her world. Whether a blood relative or an acquaintance, everyone fit the category of “family” in Ann’s eyes and heart. Her memory will be forever treasured and celebrated.

Beloved wife of the late Sgt. Michael J. Portella USMC (2010). Devoted mother of Patricia Ann Slohoda and her husband Jon of Charlottsville, VA and Jane Ann Genesi of North Haledon. Loving grandmother of Alysha Ann Arce-Johnson and her husband Keith and Jahna Anne Slohoda. Treasured great-grandmother of Sebastian Michael, Greyson James, London Jayne Johnson. Dear sister of Frieda Rudolph of Pennsylvania.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 PM at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Funeral Services Monday 9 AM at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 286 Haledon Avenue, Prospect Park.
