Obituary for Mary Ann Holeves (Fehrenbach)

Mary Ann Holeves (nee Fehrenbach), 83, of Brick passed away on November 14, 2017 in Hillsborough, N.J. Born and raised in Newark, Mary Ann was the beloved eldest daughter of Carl and Marie Fehrenbach. She was one of 13 children and was predeceased by her younger sister, Jeanne. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Newark and studied at Seton Hall University for her certification in Medical Technology. She began her career at Martland Medical Center in Newark. She lived briefly in Clifton after marrying and becoming the beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Holeves. Mary Ann and Bob moved to Wayne in 1963. While they raised their three daughters, Mary Ann earned a bachelor’s degree at William Paterson College and began a long successful career at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where she worked in the lab for over 25 years. After retiring, she moved to Brick to be closer to the beach and spent many wonderful times with her four precious grandchildren. She especially liked Avon by the Sea and Long Beach Island. She frequently traveled to California, where her daughter lived for 31 years, and loved visiting Laguna Beach and Carmel with her.

Mary Ann was passionate about the arts and excelled in oil painting with both the brush and pallet knife. An avid gardener, she had a beautiful rose garden in Wayne. She loved animals, walking the boardwalk, swimming, and visiting parks, museums, and garden shows. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean Islands and much of the United States. Her love of reading led her to become a proud member of The Friends of the Brick Library. She loved spending time with family and attended every Fehrenbach family reunion with this year being the only exception. She had many nieces, nephews, and relatives who she loved to see and with whom she kept in touch. She treated her sons-in-law as if they were her own sons.

She brightened the lives of many with her wry sense of humor. She will be missed and never forgotten. The thought of her will always make us smile. Though we are saddened by our loss, we are strengthened by her eternal presence in our hearts.

Mary Ann was predeceased by her loving husband Bob in 1985. She is survived by her devoted daughters: Cheryl Holeves and her husband John Lascelles, Lauren Anderson and her husband Keith, Karen Fisch and her husband Adam and her loving grandchildren Chelsea, Samantha, Matthew and Jillian. She is also survived by her 11 siblings: Carl, Raymond and his wife Janice, Callista Garrabrant and her husband Richard, Hugh and his wife Anna, Gerald and his wife Laura, Paul and his wife Jackie, Joan Blanchard and her husband John, Claire O’Neill and her friend Skip Dickens, Peter and his wife Annette, Joseph and his wife Kerry, John and his wife Margie.
